Spring Cannon Corridor

Business and Real Estate is heating up this Downtown Neighborhood

The recession has put the brakes on many developmental projects in Charleston. But it’s still apparent the city is in a transitional phase. And when the economy perks up we’re sure to see those projects get the much needed financial and sweat equity they deserve. One neighborhood is slowly defying the odds. Garnering applause for sprouting businesses, homes and public spaces, the neighborhood of which we speak, of course, is the Spring Cannon Corridor.

Blue Bicycle Books

Blue Bicycle Books is Charleston’s answer to all those Internet yucksters out there trying to disintegrate the printed word. Proprietor and local writer Jonathan Sanchez runs his used book shop on King Street with a steady hand and scavenging eye, picking up scores of first editions and hard to find obscurities. It’s a welcomed treat — especially if you spend your days staring at a computer screen — to amble about the store, craning your neck to read the spines, and come across an old favorite or discover a new Lowcountry author. And while the books are the store’s backbone, there are plenty of community-driven events — readings, signings, competitions and sales — that ensure Charleston remains excited about its literary scene.

The Ocean Sailing Academy in Charleston, SC

The Riverdogs deliver Baseball to Charleston’s Hungry Sports Fans
Charleston might not be Sports Town, USA, but like any decent mid-size metro without a major sports team should, we support our lot and get jazzed up when they play well. The Riverdogs baseball team began their season a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it’s because baseball [...]

On the Road with the Holy City Bike Co-op

April 15, 2009

Sure, we like the idea of Charleston becoming a pedestrian/bike-centered city. We’ve talked before about the need for less cars and more bikes in Charleston.
