C 2 B Race Starts Today

C2B

Charleston’s dog days of summer may be howling in the distance, but on the water the air is still breezy and tinged with salt. This should prove even more enticing for this year’s C 2 B sail boat race, which launches today at noon from the Charleston Maritime Center  in the Cooper River. The six boats participating will sail down to Bermuda, a 777 mile trek, and finish up at the Bermuda Yacht Club. The Spirit of South Carolina is among the contenders, and the awards ceremony takes place a week from Saturday. Good luck to all!

Summer Road Races in Charleston, SC

We received for Christmas last year a Nike Sensor+iPod. This little gadget tracks the distance of your runs; you can create soundtracks, adjust the soundtrack’s tempo for varying runs, and track all of your progress online. It’s a fascinating little tool you strap into the laces of your sneaker. And [...]

Charleston Green Taxi brings the Message Home

May 14, 2009

Driving In or Out of Charleston, take a Taxi, a Green Taxi
It used to be that taxis were not allowed to comb the streets of downtown Charleston. In an effort to minimize traffic, the city voted to give Pedicabs first dibs. Of course, you could call for a taxi and they’d come pick you up, [...]

Doing the Charleston, Revisited

An Old Dance captures our Fancy

We’ve never done it and probably never will. We’ve seen it in person once at an especially soaked wedding, where a 70-ish woman got on the parquet and went wild, slapping knees to palms and somehow keeping her Manhattan inside her glass. We’re not talking about a liquor drink here, [...]

Baked in Charleston serves Sweetness to the Masses

May 8, 2009

Desserted Goodness from Baked on East Bay Street

We’re generally not into sweets. Desserts for us are better sipped than forked — except for the occasional ice cream — but we’ve heard recently nothing but gushing praise about Charleston’s newest sweet tooth center. It’s called Baked and is on East Bay Street and we went in [...]
